What is Depression?
Depression can show up as hopelessness, low self-esteem, loss of energy or motivation to engage in activities you usually enjoy, feeling guilty, isolation, difficulty making decisions, and suicidal thoughts.
Depression can be a completely normal response to grief, trauma, and the current state of the world.
Depression can occur when the body gets trapped in a state of re-experiencing and experiences difficulty with processing and making meaning after loss, trauma, or difficult life transitions.

What is Anxiety?
Anxiety can show up as fear of the unknown and uncertainty, difficulty with routine changes, ruminating thoughts, panic attacks, racing heart, overthinking, fears/thoughts of bad things happening, overwhelm, and difficulty being yourself in social situations.
Anxiety can be related to themes of control and safety which can be a learned response from childhood, a result of trauma, financial stress, life transitions, and grief.
Anxiety can occur when our nervous system gets stuck in a state of survival and/or when we perceive that we have little to no control over our situation, which at times, can be a very adaptive response. Therapy works to support responses that do not fit the current context.
